Program Overview and Benefits

The IEC China program provides a unique opportunity to gain work experience by teaching English in China. It is an internship-like program designed for graduates aged 20 to 45.

Participants receive a monthly salary of R18,000 (approximately 7,000 RMB) after tax. Key benefits include free accommodation, meals, a work visa, and a flight ticket to China. The typical contract duration is one year.

Placements are primarily in Guangdong Province, China. Some kindergarten teaching roles are available in Zhongshan city.

Eligibility and Requirements

To be eligible, you must hold a Bachelor's degree (NQF Level 7) or higher. Diplomas are not accepted. You should also hold a valid passport from a native English-speaking country, including South Africa. A clean criminal record is mandatory.

A mandatory 120-hour TEFL certificate is required unless your degree is in education. The age range for participants is generally between 20 and 45 years old, although some sources mention a maximum of 55.

Required documents include your IEC Resume template, a self-introduction video, your degree certificate, TEFL certificate (if applicable), your South African passport, and a clean, authenticated, and notarized criminal background check. A medical check for the Z-visa will also be necessary.

You can expect to receive feedback regarding your application for interview scheduling within 5 to 7 working days of submission.

How to Apply

  2. Record a 1-2 minute self-introduction video. This video should cover your name, age, nationality, education, any relevant experience, why you want to join the program, and your interest in Chinese culture.

  4. Exit the WhatsApp group immediately after successfully submitting your documents.
  5. Wait for communication via email or WhatsApp within 5-7 working days. This will be to schedule your first interview if your application is successful.
